Translation accuracy
BrailleDot.com is built to follow the Unified English Braille (UEB) standard as published by the Braille Authority of North America (BANA), and its contraction engine is tested against a regression suite covering known edge cases (including morpheme boundary exceptions, digit and letter disambiguation, and email/URL handling). Despite this, automated braille translation is not a substitute for review by a qualified human transcriber, particularly for:
- Legal documents and contracts
- Medical instructions or information
- Educational materials used for formal instruction or assessment
- Any context where a translation error could cause real harm or consequence
If you’re producing braille for a high-stakes purpose, we recommend having the output reviewed by a certified braille transcriber before use.
Not a certified transcription service
This tool is built and maintained based on a close working understanding of UEB rules and regression-tested engineering, not a formal transcription certification. It is intended as a free utility for everyday translation, learning, and accessibility needs, not as a substitute for professional, certified transcription services where those are legally or institutionally required.
Third-party hardware compatibility
.brf exports are formatted according to standard braille-ready-format conventions for use with braille embossers and refreshable braille displays. We cannot guarantee compatibility with every embosser or note-taker model, since firmware behavior varies by manufacturer. If you’re unsure, consult your device’s documentation or manufacturer before relying on exported files for a formal print run.
Voice input and OCR accuracy
Voice input depends on your browser’s built-in speech recognition and may vary in accuracy depending on browser, accent, and background noise. Image scanning (OCR) is built for printed and typed text; handwriting recognition is not reliable and shouldn’t be used where accuracy is critical.
