This page explains what happens to your data when you use brailledot.com (“this site,” “the tool,” “we,” “us”).

The short version

The core translation engine runs entirely in your browser. Text you type or paste for translation is never sent to a server, logged, or stored. Two features work differently, and both are explained below: voice input and image scanning.

What this site does not do

We do not require an account or signup to use the translator. We do not sell personal data. We do not run third-party advertising trackers on the tool itself.

Core translation (text to braille, braille to text)

All translation, including Grade 1, Grade 2, and reverse decoding, runs as JavaScript in your browser. The text you enter is processed locally on your device. It is not transmitted to our servers, not logged, and not stored anywhere by us.

Voice input

Voice input uses your browser’s built-in speech recognition service to convert spoken audio to text. This is the one input method that is not fully local, since your browser (not this site) sends audio to its own speech recognition provider to process it. Availability, accuracy, and that provider’s own data handling depend on which browser you use. We do not receive, store, or have access to your voice audio or the transcript your browser generates.

Image scanning (OCR)

The image-to-text feature runs using a self-hosted, in-browser OCR engine. Images you upload or capture are processed on your device and are not uploaded to our servers or any third party.

Cookies and analytics

This site may use GA4 to understand aggregate visitor behavior, such as which pages are visited and how long they take to load. This data is anonymized/aggregated and is not linked to the content you translate. You can opt out using your browser’s cookie settings or a browser extension that blocks analytics scripts.

Data from the contact form / email

If you contact us directly, we retain your email address and message only as long as needed to respond to and resolve your inquiry.

This site links to external resources (educational content, embosser manufacturer sites, etc.). We aren’t responsible for the privacy practices of external sites you navigate to from here.

Children’s privacy

This site does not knowingly collect personal information from children. The tool itself requires no account, login, or personal data submission to function.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes in a way that affects how your data is handled, we’ll update the date at the top of this page.
